About the Speaker

An acclaimed author, he has published many best selling books including: The Crisis of Islam, What Went Wrong: The Clash Between Islam and Modernity in the Middle East, and The Middle East. His books have been translated into more than 20 languages including Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, and Turkish. Few people understand the politics economies, and cultures of Middle Eastern nations as well as Bernard Lewis. As noted in a recent Wall Street Journal article, he is highly respected, not just be westerners, but by Islamic scholars and even Islamic fundamentalist groups. He holds a B.A. in Middle Eastern studies, and a PhD in Islamic Studies. Acclaimed for his brilliance, clarity and frankness, he has dedicated the past 65 years to researching, teaching, and writing on the Middle east and Islam. He is currently Professor Emeritus of Near Eastern Studies at Princeton University.
