About the Speaker
MAJ Daniel Flynn
Daniel Flynn is a PhD Candidate in the Department of Political Science at the University Of Notre Dame. Focusing on international relations and comparative politics, Flynn’s research explores the intersection of strategic studies, individuals in political science, and civil-military relations. His dissertation – The Hidden Rank: Civilian Education and Military Leadership - examines the impact of civilian education on the career prospects of military officers. Prior to attending Notre Dame, he earned a B.A. from Loyola University Chicago and M.A. from the University of Oklahoma.
Major Flynn serves in the United States Army as a Strategist (FA 59). Currently, he is an Instructor of International Affairs at the United States Military Academy, West Point in the Department of Social Sciences. Commissioned as an infantry officer in 2007, he served in the 25th Infantry Division (Schofield Barracks), the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command (Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam), and the 4th Infantry Division (Ft. Carson). Throughout his tenure, he led multiple deployments to the Middle East and South East Asia
Forest T. Harper, Jr.
Forest is an accomplished Senior Healthcare Executive with a consistent track record of sales achievement, product support, and innovative business model development. He’s led a National Sales force that delivered sustainable commercial performance in excess of $19B. Forest’s unique flair for Public Policy Grassroots Advocacy and Civic Engagement have led to the creation of a 25,000-member Community-Based Organization and a successful external Stakeholder Relations model. Forest has a proven Governance and Senior Leadership Executive track record in top tier Non-Profit Organizations.
Forest proudly serves as a member of the Morgan State University Foundation Board; the Morgan State Earl Grey School of Business Advisory Council; the Take on Race Advisory Council; the Executive Leadership Council (ELC) Community Impact Committee; The Steve Fund; Forbes Non-Profit Council; and the Atlanta CEO Non-Profit Roundtable.
Dr. Tammy L. Hodo
Tammy L. Hodo earned her Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in Urban Studies, with a minor in Sociology in which she specializations in Race, Class, Gender, and Ethnicity. She worked in academia for over fifteen years in a variety of positions, to include faculty and university administrator as she followed her active duty Army husband around the world. Her most recent administrative role was the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for a law school where she was responsible for policy development and overall institutional compliance for students, faculty, and staff related to discrimination and harassment. Tammy recently completed a Visiting Assistant Professor of Sociology position at the University of North Florida (UNF).
After completing her Visiting Professor position Dr. Tammy L. Hodo established All Things Diverse LLC, an educational consulting company working with organizations to optimize employee productivity through recognizing the value of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Tammy has provided training to local and national organizations all under the umbrella of diversity, equity, and inclusion. She has written course content on Implicit Biases and Microaggressions for a national educational vendor that is being used at hundreds of colleges and universities. She is a TEDx Jacksonville speaker where she discussed “The Social Implications of Race.” Leaving academia was a difficult decision for her but she felt that she could have a larger impact on the public at large as a business owner hoping to educate the masses on the value of diversity. A few areas that she addresses are issues of racial equity, homophobia, gender identity, expression, and fluidity. She conducts workplace climate surveys, conducts policy audits and develops diversity programming based off organizational needs.
Dr. Richmond Wynn
Dr. Wynn is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, a Qualified Supervisor, and a Certified Addictions Professional in the State of Florida. He is also a Nationally Certified Counselor. For 20 years, prior to joining the faculty at UNF, he held clinical and administrative positions in addictions treatment, community mental health, private industry, and university counseling center settings. Dr. Wynn maintains a limited private practice and is an experienced consultant and trainer.
I embrace culture-centered approaches to teaching, research, and counseling. My research focuses on intersectionality of identity, traumatic stress, and health outcomes with an emphasis on marginalized social identity groups. I am specifically interested in the ways in which culturally diverse, lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people negotiate their identities and manage their health.
