Making
the Connections
Did
you know that more than 10,000 jobs in the Jacksonville area are
directly or indirectly attributable to international trade, which
generates an economic impact of more than $1 billion annually on the
local economy? An important part of the Council’s mission is to
support the future success of Jacksonville
as an
international trading center and ensure that our citizens are
informed participants in the First Coast’s
business and economic policy debates. The Global Economic Forum
offers invaluable insight into international political, economic,
business and financial trends – information that is important to
First Coast businesses as they make both short and long term
development, staffing and investment decisions.

The
Global Economic Forum is directed at the business and professional
community and our programs are all held downtown at the River
Club. This Forum was launched in April 2004 with Nobel-prize winning
economist, Joseph Stiglitz.
Past speakers have
included the West Coast Editor of The
Economist, John Andrews,
U.S. Editor of The Times of
London, Gerard Baker,
Partner of Manatt,
Phelps & Phillips, LLP and former U.S. Ambassador to
Mexico, James R. Jones, Permanent Representative of Chile to
the United Nations, Heraldo Munoz, and Senior
Vice President, Boeing; former Deputy Secretary of State and former
U.S. Ambassador to India, Russia, Jordan, Nigeria and El Salvador, Thomas
Pickering.
Given
our highly prestigious network of councils, national affiliations,
and non-profit status, we are uniquely positioned to attract some of
the most distinguished speakers to Jacksonville.
