Improving International Education

The $1,200 annual academic scholarship is designed to recognize a sophomore or junior at Edward Waters College, Florida State College at Jacksonville, Jacksonville University or the University of North Florida whose academic program and/or future interests must include pursuing a career in international business, government, foreign or military service.

The scholarship is in honor of the Council’s past president, Ambassador Marilyn McAfee, who devoted her professional career to serving in the Foreign Service and has been instrumental in the growth of the Council.

The Council awarded its annual $1,200 Ambassador Marilyn McAfee Scholarship in April 2010 to Amanda Sieusahai, a junior majoring in International Business at the University of North Florida. A native of Trinidad, she hopes to work for a multinational corporation immediately following graduation in order to gain some experience prior to applying to graduate school for a degree in Development Economics. Amanda is most interested in issues of poverty, primarily in Africa, and aspires to eventually work for the United Nations. The scholarship money partially funds her internship abroad during the summer of 2010.

The 2010-2011 Ambassador Marilyn McAfee Scholarship will be available August 2010.
