Dr.
Michael Rubin, who has studied in Iraq and Iran and lived
among the people of both countries, gave a fascinating
presentation on the power struggles in Iran and the
complexity of the society and its religious, historical, and
tribal affiliations and loyalties at UNF on November 6.
He described how current leaders view the
United States
and the
Iraq
war and explained why he was not in favor of military action
at this time in dealing with the Iranian nuclear threat.
He also clarified why a future alliance between Shiites in
Iran
and
Iraq
was problematic.
