Dr. Howe
became President and CEO of Project HOPE in 2001.
Previously, Dr. Howe was the CEO and Professor of
Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at
San Antonio
. He provided leadership to the University’s Medical School,
Dental School, Nursing School, Biomedical Sciences, School of
Allied Health Sciences and Doctor of Pharmacy programs.
Dr.
Howe is Chair of the Harvard College Board of Overseers
Committee at the Medical School and School of Dental
Medicine and a member of the Board of Visitors at the
Boston University School of Public Health. He is also the
founding President of the Texas Society for Biomedical
Research, and past Chair of the American Medical
Association’s Council on Science and Public Health.
Project HOPE’s Mission is to
achieve sustainable advances in health care around the world
by implementing health education programs and providing
humanitarian assistance in areas of need, most recently in
Iraq, Indonesia and China.
Though the challenges have evolved, Project HOPE is
committed to addressing the world’s new health threats by
playing a leadership role – forging new alliances among
those on the frontlines of health and together to seek new
solutions. Project
HOPE is an international health foundation, with offices and
programs in 30 countries on five continents.
