Maurice O.
(Maury)
Edmonds
is retired after a 35 year career in the United States Army
followed by a second career of 8 years as Vice President of
IPALCO Enterprises, Inc in Indianapolis.
He attended
public schools in
Jacksonville, Florida; graduated from the
University
of
Florida
in 1953 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical
Education and Health, and subsequently earned a Master of
Science degree in Counseling at Shippensburg
State
University.
Commissioned
as an Infantry officer through the
University
of
Florida ROTC
program, he served in a wide range of staff, schools, and
command assignments throughout the
United States, Europe,
Asia and the Pacific. He served two combat tours with Infantry
units in the
Republic
of
Vietnam
and Cambodia, commanding the 5th Battalion, 7th Cavalry in 1970. He
retired from active duty in 1988 as a Major General following
service as Deputy Chief of Staff for Training and as Commander
of the U. S. Army Soldier Support Center.
During his
career with IPALCO Enterprises, General Edmonds held
responsibilities for Human Resources, General Services,
Strategic Planning and Corporate Affairs.
His and his
wife, Jane, have two sons: Neal, an officer in the Virginia
National Guard responsible for coordinating military training
and support for the Tajikistan Armed Forces; and Mark, an
Army officer now serving in Iraq as Deputy Brigade Commander,
82d Airborne Division.
Maury and
Jane live in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.
